Architects Vineet Vora and Prachi Parekh Vora of Studio Urban Form + Objects have created Raintree Home as their own 1350 sq.ft. urban oasis in Mumbai. It is a celebration of the architects’ love for experimenting with different materials and their crafting processes. Consistent with this spirit of experimentation,  Raintree Home is a mix of erstwhile hand-crafted finishes dotted with a host of bespoke objects made by Studio Urban Form + Objects that form an essential part of Studios material research in materials such as Indigenous Indian marble, concrete, bronze, and teak wood.

Raintree Home exists within a 70-year-old Art Deco building and with structural stability concerns, the work of its interior construction therefore comprises a sensitive effort of removal rather than of addition.

The building existed in the shade of an idyllic raintree. A strategic decision was taken to further remove the weather shade that existed over the terrace within the home, opening it to the shade of this gigantic  Raintree that lends the home its unique name.

Raintree Home is designed using a subtle material palette to lend a certain quietude to the space. The entire floor of the home is made using ‘in-situ’ terrazzo floors that were customized using local Indian marble chips. The exact mix of colours of marbles used was finalised through sampling on site.
