NORTH LIGHT HOUSE

This compact ground + 2 storey, home is located in rural Rajasthan on a very tightly situated plot with buildings on 2 sides. The unique volume of the house was arrived at, by negotiating the available space between its adjacent oddly shaped houses.

In order to lend a sense of openness however, the main living area of the house is opened to the front facade facing the north and is designed to bring in cool sunlight through an 8 m high window that spans it's entire height.

Local sandstone used to clad the structure further sets it into its context, An automated shutter built into the facade allows the possibility to enclose the large north light glazing in days of extreme heat.
